Noël X. Ebony

Noël X. Ebony (Noël Essy Kouamé) was born around 1953 in the east of Côte d’Ivoire to a large Akan family. He died in 1986 under suspicious conditions in a car crash in Senegal, where he had self-exiled. Ebony was a formidable journalist in Côte d’Ivoire and under pressure by the government because of his critical positions regarding its one-party system and actions that he considered abusive. Ebony published one poetry collection in his life, Déjà vu suivi de Chutes (Éditions Ouskokata 1983), though more of his work was often included in anthologies.
