Philip Metres
Philip Metres is the author of a number of books, most recently the chapbook abu ghraib arias (Flying Guillotine, 2011) and To See the Earth (Cleveland State University Poetry Center, 2008). Other books include: Come Together: Imagine Peace (2008), Behind the Lines: War Resistance Poetry on the American Homefront since 1941 (University of Iowa Press, 2007), and Catalogue of Comedic Novelties: Selected Poems of Lev Rubinstein (Ugly Duckling Presse, 2004). His work has appeared in Best American Poetry and Inclined to Speak: Contemporary Arab American Poetry, and has garnered an NEA, a Watson Fellowship, two Ohio Arts Council Grants, and the Cleveland Arts Prize in 2010. He teaches literature and creative writing at John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio. Were it not for Ellis Island, his last name would be Abourjaili.
