Jen/Eleana Hofer (they/elle) is a poet, translator, social justice interpreter, educator, facilitator, DIY bookmaker, urban cyclist, and language justice coordinator with Sins Invalid. Their collaboration with Patrick Durgin, The Route, was published by Atelos; with Rod Smith, they co-edited Aerial 10: Lyn Hejinian. J/E is a queer white Latinx Jewish BDS supporter living on unceded Tongva lands who publishes poems, translations, and visual-textual works with small independent presses and in DIY/DIT incarnations and encourages you to agitate for a free Palestine in any and every way you can.

We spoke together on the occasion of her recent Ugly Duckling Presse book, Reps, which uses undisclosed constraints as carrying cases — safe deposit boxes — for the stories humans tell each other to make sense of their many capacities.

Kendra Sullivan operates in the vital tradition of poets who undertake DIY cultural work. She is the Director of the CUNY Graduate Center’s Center for Humanities, where she is responsible for initiatives such as Lost & Found: The CUNY Poetics Archive Initiative and NYC Climate Justice Hub. She co-founded the Sunview Luncheonette, a cooperative arts venue in Brooklyn, and is a member of Mare Liberum, an eco-arts collective.

Adventures in Self-Surveillance

Thirteen color televisions. Portable. All from the mid-1990s. The three largest are lined end-to-end. Below them, eight smaller televisions, square, stacked in two columns of four. The stacked televisions suggest legs, while a second television draws our eye. The way it lists above a smaller one suggests a head and neck, fronted by a snout.
