Charles Tomlinson
Charles Tomlinson, born 1927 in Stoke-on-Trent, England, has published eighteen books of verse as well as his New Collected Poems in 2009. Especially indebted to twentieth century American poetry, he has also translated Antonio Machado, Fyodor Tyutchev, and Attilio Bertolucci, while his collaborations with Octavio Paz resulted in the joint verse of Airborne / Hijos del Aire and Renga. His series of surrealist paintings, Eden: Graphics and Poetry, was published in 1985. He taught in the English Department, University of Bristol, for thirty-six years from 1956, and has lived with his wife Brenda in their Gloucestershire cottage since 1958.
