Steve Giasson (born 1979, Québec) is a conceptual artist who uses a wide variety of forms and media (conceptual writing, text art, installation, video, performance, etc.) to transgress genres and to question their limits. He has published twenty books and is currently pursuing a PhD in Études et pratiques des arts (UQÀM). His work has been shown in Canada, the United States, Mexico, England, Spain, France, Germany, and Sweden, including large international exhibitions SUCH AS the Text Festival 2011, the Liverpool Biennial 2012, The Dark Would, Summerhall, Edinburgh, the Text Festival 2014, Ed Ruscha Books & Co. at the Gagosian Gallery Madison, Museum Brandhorst (Munich), and Gagosian Gallery Paris. He is the winner of the Prix de la Vitrine culturelle (prize of the cultural showcase) for an emerging artist and of a distinction of the Cirque de Soleil, awarded within the framework of the Art Souterrain 2015. In his new solo exhibition called Performances invisibles (Invisible Performances) at Dare-Dare (Montréal), Giasson will make 130 art performances, based on conceptual sentences, during one full year (July 7, 2015–July 6, 2016). He lives and works in Montréal.
