Gary Barwin

Gary Barwin is a writer, composer, multimedia artist, educator, and performer, and the author of fourteen books of poetry and fiction. His books include Franzlations (with Craig Conley and Hugh Thomas), The Obvious Flap (with Gregory Betts), The Porcupinity of the StarsOutside the Hat, Raising Eyebrows, Doctor Weep and Other Strange Teeth, Big Red Baby, The Mud Game (a novel with Stuart Ross), and frogments from the frag pool (with derek beaulieu). He was cowinner of the Harbourfront Poetry NOW competition (2011), the bpNichol chapbook award (2010), the Hamilton Poetry Book of the Year (2011), and the K. M. Hunter Artist Award. Barwin has given hundreds of readings in Canada, Europe, Asia, and the US. He received a PhD in music composition from SUNY Buffalo. His recent sound works include “For Hoarsemen,” “Sonnets 1–20,” “Old Mother,” “Future Moons,” “Double Tiger Barcode,” and “Subject Object Verb.”
