Amy Paeth

Amy Paeth is a teaching fellow in the Center for Programs in Contemporary Writing at the University of Pennsylvania, specializing in twentieth- and twenty-first-century American literature, poetry and poetics, sociologies of literature, and Cold War American culture. Her current book project, State Verse Culture: American Poets Laureate, 1945–2015, argues that the state was the silent center of post-WWII American poetic production, examining the collaboration of federal bodies (the State Department, the Central Intelligence Agency, the National Endowment for the Arts), literary institutions (Poetry Magazine/The Poetry Foundation, Poetry Society of America), and private patrons (Paul Mellon, Ruth Lilly) in the production of “state verse culture.” It was awarded the Northeast Modern Language Association (NeMLA)’s Annual Book Prize in 2018. PhD, English, University of Pennsylvania (2015). MA, English, University of Pennsylvania (2010). AB, English and Creative Writing, Princeton University (2008).
