'Reading List' 2016

I was asked to write this piece in late December for the January issue of the Harriet blog The Reading Lista feature of Poetry magazine’s Editors’ Bloga

Just Out: 'The Blood of the Stone' by Marcela Delpastre

Translated from the Occitan by Nicole Peyrafitte & Pierre Joris

 Order from mindmade books.

Just out: Ashraf Fayadh’s ‘Instructions Within’

Very pleased to be back in New York, despite all — and find my copy of Ashraf Fayadh’s Instructions Within, translated by Mona Kareem (with Mona Zaki and Jonathan Wright) and published by the operating system. And what a rare occasion it is, design-wise: the parti pris of choosing to print this bilingual (Arab-English) edition the way Arabic is read and printed, i.e., from right to left.

Novelistic sloppiness

Jonathan Dee's Introduction to Frisch's 'Montauk'

On my mind, this morning? Last night’s irritation: I had walked into McNally Jackson, my last (not least) favorite Manhattan bookshop, to browse new books & came upon Max Frisch’s Montauk (which I had reread twice in the last 6 months for a project I had been working on). Somewhat surprised that it had been reissued, I picked it up to see if their was any pressing reason for this. Well, there is a new introduction by novelist Jonathan Dee, so I casually started reading it.
