
Toni Bowers, PhD, lives in Philadelphia. She taught at Penn for 33 years before retiring in 2024, and retains her title, Professor of English. She has published four books and more than 50 scholarly articles and reviews. Toni Bowers has served as Visiting Professor at Edinburgh University in Scotland and MacLain Distinguished Professor at Colorado College. Her new, co-edited edition of Samuel Richardson’s Pamela (published 1740-41) is in production at Broadview Press. It will be the first edition of the entire novel to appear in over 100 years, and the first ever to be annotated for student readers. Professor Bowers is now editing for publication a pair of previously unpublished early twentieth-century memoirs by colleagues of filmmaker Charles Chaplin.
