The photographs presented here are selected from about thirty pictures of Weatherly during his visit to Philadelphia to give a reading on the publication of his Telegraph Books pamphlet Thumbprint in November 1971. The first three show Weatherly and poet/critic Ken Bluford; the next five were taken at Telegraph Books headquarters at 3524 Hamilton Street in Philly’s hip Powelton Village, with Victor Bockris, and in portrait; and the final photograph shows Weatherly’s Telegraph Books reading.
Note: What follows is a reminiscence of a reading in celebration of the journal Lip, of which Tom Weatherly and Kenneth Bluford were a part, on Sunday, November 19, 1972. — David Grundy
Note: Victor Bockris and Andrew Wylie conducted a series of interviews with numerous contemporary American poets during the early 1970s, published in various venues. The playful style of the interview with Weatherly is typical of these. (These interviews were collected for a book to be titled The Life of Poetry in 1973, but the book never appeared in print.
