Criticism as Football

The papers were publicly presented as part of an evening organized and moderated by the poet Sean Killian, on Saturday, March 22, 1997 at 7:30pm in the Segue Performance Space at 303 East 8th Street, New York City. The authors wish to express their thanks and gratitude to Mr. Killian for his generosity in organizing and promoting this event. Jacket wishes to thank the authors for allowing the papers to be published here. The work is copyright; please see the copyright notice directly below.

The Impercipient Lecture Series is a series of elegantly designed and typeset pamphlets edited and published by Steve Evans and Jennifer Moxley from Providence, Rhode Island. The series is "...Dedicated to Free Intellectual Production". While they do not accept unsolicited manuscripts, if you would like information about giving a lecture, please send them a query. They say: "We encourage you to copy the ILS in part or in full and share it with your comrades, though we ask that proper citation be employed out of respect for the authors."

That with this bright believing band
I have no claim to be,
That faiths by which my comrades stand
Seem fantasies to me,
And mirage-mists their Shining Land,
Is a strange destiny.

from Thomas Hardy’s "The Impercipient"

If you are interested in hosting an ILS lecture in your town, or in reprinting its contents in a more permanent form, please write to Steve Evans and Jennifer Moxley. During 1998 their address is: c/- Le Gallou, #9 rue Quinault, Paris 75015, France.
