Yu Jian

Yu Jian is a founding father of post-Soviet Chinese poetry and one of the most popular and respected poets writing in Chinese today. He lives in Kunming, where he makes documentary films in addition to writing poetry and cultural criticism. A selection of his “Notes” — short poems recording his observations of life in Kunming over the last decade or so — was recently translated into English by Wang Ping and Ron Padgett and published by Zephyr Press under the title Flashcards: Selected Poems from Yu Jian’s Anthology of Notes.
